Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the popular culture. Committed to destroying the stereotypes of women that exist in pop culture, she also works to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals on the internet. As a university student, Sarkeesian became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights at an early stage. It was a girl with a dream to develop a series of web videos that would examine how gender is represented in games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within popular culture narratives.
