Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix as the daughter Juanita (nee Cordova) and Colby Carter. Her mother comes from Mexico is Mexican, Spanish and French. One brother, Vincent, and one sister, Pamela, are her siblings. Carter was five years old when she made her TV debut on the Lew Kings Talent Show. During high school, Carter performed in a band called Just Us. The group played a marimba and a conga drum. They also played an acoustic guitar and a stand-up bass which was played by another member of the group. When she was 15 Lynda began singing at the local pizza restaurant for extra cash. [8] When she was 16, she joined her cousins in another group called The Relatives. The drummer in the band was Gary Burghoff, an actor. The group opened at the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months since Carter was not yet 21 years old, she had to pass through the kitchen.Carter was a student at Arizona State University. After being recognized as "Most gifted" Carter made the decision to leave school and pursue a career as a musician. In 1970, Carter auditioned and then was on tour together with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first performance with each other was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown, a San Francisco hotel so new that it didn't have a sidewalk entrance. The band played mostly to hotel staff as well as guests who parked their vehicles in the underground garage. The Garfin Gathering played shows in numerous Nevada casinos, which included those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter left the Garfin Gathering for acting, and returned home to Arizona in 1972.
